How to Dehydrate Apples in an Air Fryer

Dehydrating apples in an air fryer is a great way to prep a healthy snack. Dehydrated apple slices are perfect for when you need a quick snack on the go and don’t want to be weigh down with whole apples.

So what exactly is dehydrating. Well it is drying out the fruit to rid it of moisture. This takes it from a juicy apple slice to a dried apple slice. Dried fruit is perfect for when you need a snack that won’t spoil.

I used my Ninja air fryer which has a dehydrate setting to dehydrate my apples. I was able to fit 2 apples (sliced up) in my air fryer and dehydrated them at 135° for about 7 hours and 45 minutes. They came out as the perfect sweet snack.

The best apples for dehydrating are sweet apples. I like to dehydrate Gala or Fuji apples. As these apples are sweeter your dehydrated apple chips will have a sweeter taste.

Tools Needed:
Air Fryer with dehydrate setting
Knife & cutting board
Medium sized bowl
Apple Corer (optional)
Mandolin (optional)

Ingredients:
2 Medium Apples
1/2 Lemon

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 7-8 Hours

How to Dehydrate Apples
  1. First you will need to wash your apples.
  2. Coring & peeling the apples is optional; however make sure to remove the seeds. Slice your apples thinly. You can cut them in slices or across in rings. The most important thing is to cut them as evenly as possible; if you have a mandolin, use it.
  3. In a bowl of cold water add the juice of 1/2 a lemon.
  4. As soon as you cut an apple slice put it in this water; it will help it from browning.
  5. Dry the apple slices off patting with a towel.
  6. Lay your slices flat on the bottom of the  air fryer, do not overlap apples. Put in your fryer tray and lay more apples; put in any additional racks and lay more apples. You want to add as many layers as you can with space in between each layer.
  7. Set your air fryer to its dehydrate setting and its suggested time for dehydrating. Around 135° for 7-8 hours.
  8. After your timer goes off you can check on your apples, if they are not dry enough to your liking add an extra 15-30 minutes as needed.
  9. Store your dehydrated apples in an airtight container like. Remove as much air as possible. As there is no moisture dehydrated apples can last at least a month.

Hi Emily, when I received your recipe for dried apple slices I already had some in the airfryer.Been looking for a recipe for quite a while now and just this afternoon decided to try to make them. I wanted to make wedges instead of slices because we are PA Dutch and one of our fav meals is Schnitz & Knepp and the slices are too thin for that since it is like a soup. So My fryer says to dehydrate on 120 for 2 hrs which I think is for slices too.Mine is a Power XL fryer and I can’t seem to get the temp that low, only down to 180. Maybe I am not doing it right, but I don’t know how to get it any lower. So I will have to wait and see how they turn out.

I would say to go to as low of a temp as you can. I hope they turn out well!
