Air Fried Buffalo Tempeh

by Emily

If you are new to eating vegan and have never tried tempeh, don’t be scared I bet you will love it as much as I do. Similar to tofu in the fact it is also made of soybeans however tempeh has a firmer, nuttier & a tad fermented taste. My favorite way to eat tempeh is to marinate it then pan fry or air fry and add on my avocado toast.

Find 6 oil free tempeh marinades here – my favorite is the soy maple.

Is the air fryer craze still a thing!? who knows. All I know is I still enjoy using my Ninja air fryer. It’s great because it makes the tempeh crispy without having to use a bunch of oil. And it’s easy to use.

Speaking of easy, this recipe is pretty easy, don’t worry you can’t really mess it up. It’s also 100% vegan by using earth balance vegan butter to make the buffalo sauce.

My go to tempeh is Lightlife brand. My local grocery store carries it, you can also find it at Whole Foods or other natural food stores. I added measurements for the corn starch, almond milk & cornflakes but just put a bit in a bowl and add more as needed. You are probably thinking, why crushed cornflakes and not breadcrumbs. Well, every time I go to buy breadcrumbs they contain milk in the ingredients and cornflakes are basically just corn but feel free to use either. I personally like the crunch the cornflakes give.

This buffalo tempeh makes for a nice “chicken wing” type appetizer with ranch & celery. Or you can make it a meal by adding some fresh greens, rice and chopped veggies.
