How to Make DIY Recipe Jar Gifts
Fill Jar with shelf stable ingredients starting with the largest quantity ingredient. You may want to use a spoon or funnel so you do not spill ingredients everywhere. After adding all ingredients place the lid on the jar and make sure it is sealed tight. Next create your tag. Your tag can have a greeting like “Merry Christmas” or the name of the recipe like “Energy Bites Mix”. But the most important part is that it has instructions on how to finish the recipe, listing additional ingredients needed and steps to make it. Use ribbon or twine to tie the tag around the top of the jar. The final step is to gift your jar with joy.
Get Creative & Sustainable
DIYing your own gifts gives you creative freedom with your gift. You can buy different colored and shaped tags from a craft store or even make your own. Ribbon colors and patterns are endless; you can also use something more rustic like twine or try using any old yarn or string you have already. When making the tags you can have fun with different fonts and pen colors or even use a stamp on the front with an image or fun greeting. If you want to add another personal touch, before filling your jars you can paint the outside with a design; this would be a fun activity for kids. I personally like to leave them clear so you can see the layers in the jar. Add extra ribbons or decorate the lid of the jar – it’s your jar so have fun with it. For my jars I went a more simple route with a gold and brown theme- twine, gold ribbon, brown tags, tags with gold trim, and black handwritten letters.
If you are someone who is concerned about being sustainable or zero waste this is a great gift option. You can recycle/ reuse old glass jars instead of buying new mason jars. Instead of buying crafting materials create your own tags with construction paper, reuse ribbon from gifts you’ve received or skip the tag and use sharpie straight on the jar. If you wanted to wrap your jar gift you can recycle your daily newspaper (comic section is the best). Many jar food gift ingredients can also be bought in bulk or from the bulk bin section in a store.
