Follow along my vegan food adventure to see what cleveland vegan restaurants and cleveland vegan food options I can find when I visit my hometown in Northeast Ohio.
This past weekend I went home to the Cleveland area where I grew up. Everytime I go back home I get excited to explore the vegan food scene as it is always changing. I thought it would be fun to share what vegan food I ate while visiting the Cleveland, Ohio area.
The Vegan Doughnut Company
I knew that I had to get vegan donuts after seeing the beautiful and delicious looking donuts from The Vegan Doughnut Co. on instagram. They tasted just as good as they looked. The location was super cute and it’s nice to know you are supporting a local women owned business. The flavors we got were: Peach, Maple Cream Filled, Pumpkin, Pumpkin Glazed, Chocolate Sprinkle and Glazed Twist. My favorite was the Maple. I cannot wait to go back to this cute little shop in Lakewood.
Cleveland Vegan
For breakfast I went to a fully vegan restaurant Cleveland Vegan Catering Cafe & Bakery. Not only can you sit in the brightly lit restaurant, you can stop by and grab a fresh pastry or a to-go meal. Everything on their menu sounds so amazing. I got the Sausage Egg & Cheese Sandwich and the Buffalo Mac N’ Cheese. My sister got the Breakfast Burrito. Last time I was here I enjoyed a donut & the mushroom toast. If you have one day to visit cleveland this Lakewood vegan restaurant is a must.
Boss ChickNBeer
I was looking for places a little closer to the suburb where I grew up and found that this newer restaurant had a vegan option. So we had to check it out! It’s super refreshing to see restaurants add vegan options to the menu. Boss ChickNBeer had vegan tofu & cauliflower wings and you could choose your sauce. The chili was vegan and most of the sides could be modified to be vegan. I tried the crispy brussel sprouts without butter. This was a fun little diner-esque spot on Front Street in Berea.
The Root Cafe
Root Cafe is a vegetarian cafe in Lakewood. It’s super cozy, they have a big menu and plenty of baked goods. It’s a great place to catch up with a friend and grab a coffee, which is exactly what I did. I got the Vegan Breakfast Burrito that was on the specials board; it had sweet potatoes, tofu scramble and an amazing aioli sauce. Needless to say it was good and I plan to visit this vegan friendly cafe again.
Melt Bar and Grilled
Another classic restaurant I visit when im in Cleveland is Melt in Independence but they have multiple locations. They have so many vegan options that you get an entire page of vegan food to choose from and it all rocks. This time I tried the Wet Hot Buffalo Tofu Sandwich with the vegan macaroni and cheese; both were good. My go to app is the Wild Tofu “Wings” with buffalo and house made vegan ranch. While this restaurant is known for their gourmet piled high grilled cheese sandwiches I just love their Awesome Noodle #1 salad it’s just so fresh and flavorful. I loved it so much I made my own version . Melt hasn’t seen the last of me.
Cleveland Hopkins Airport
I was very surprised to find good vegan options at the Cleveland airport, not just hummus, pretzels and fruit – not that I don’t love eating those but sometimes you just need a real meal. Inca Tea Cafe has dairy free milk options and vegan friendly snacks and treats. I got a Chai Latte with Oat milk and a Vegan Carrot muffin. The power bowl at 800 Degrees Woodfired Kitchen is vegan and a healthy option; the tahini dressing was perfect with the kale. It also looked like Wow Bao, Bruegger’s Bagels, and Currito may have vegan options too.
I also stopped at Chipotle and got a veggie bowl because well not everywhere has vegan options and chipotle is always a safe bet, ya know.
Until next time CLE.
